About me and my therapy practice

With the right support I believe we are all capable of navigating our way through the difficult times in our lives.

My sessions can provide you with a safe and confidential space to look at your thoughts and feelings and explore issues from the past that may be affecting your present.

I believe that we all have the solutions within ourselves but I will help you find them through the relationship that we will build together

My path into counselling as a second career began after a positive personal experience of therapy where I felt a genuine connection to my therapist and was encouraged to explore my thoughts and feelings without judgement or opinion.

My first career in documentary making for television taught me the importance of truly listening to personal stories and, in a sometimes exploitative environment, to appreciate the responsibility of how best to reflect people’s lived experiences in their own voice. I believe there are parallels in the therapeutic relationship that I now establish with my clients where I endeavour to help clients to tell their stories by offering empathy and understanding.

My experience includes working with bereavement, loss, grief, anxiety, depression, and abuse. I work with individuals and couples.

I can offer sessions in Leeds City Centre, online or via telephone (daytime and evening).

Practice description

I believe the key to successful therapy is to establish a supportive and collaborative working relationship.  I aim to do this by getting to know my clients and trying to understand what brings them to therapy, helping them to find their own answers and the best ways forward.

My first session

Our first session would be about exploring the challenges which may have contributed to you seeking therapy at this time. We will talk about the ways in which I may be able to help and work with you.  An important part of the first session is also to decide if we both feel we can work together.  If we agree to moving forward together we will make a plan of what may be best suited for you and this will depend on the nature of what you may be seeking therapy for.
